Nongpoh, Oct 30: To enhance road safety and ensure that drivers understand the traffic rules and regulations for the smooth and secure movement of vehicles on highways, the Ri-Bhoi police today conducted a live demonstration for drivers of both heavy and light vehicles.
The objective was to educate them on the proper lanes and directions to follow while driving on highways to prevent road mishaps and accidents.
The demonstration took place along the Umsning Bypass under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police Orville Massar.
District police have been undertaking a drive to enforce traffic laws across the district to curb violations, with lakhs of rupees collected in fines, stricter implementation of rules and this has led to a drop in certain offences, such as illegal parking and reckless driving.
Superintendent of Police VS Rathore explained that drivers of both heavy and light vehicles were guided on the proper sequence of movements – beginning with driving on the left side of the road, following the correct traffic flow and performing zigzag manoeuvres before choosing the safest lane to proceed. This, he said, forms part of the practical training to help drivers strictly adhere to traffic laws for the safety of all road users.
