Shillong, Sep 17: The Department of Chemistry, University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), organised a combined academic and outreach programme to mark World Ozone Day 2026 under the theme ‘From Science to Global Action.’
A quiz competition, an awareness lecture and the Montreal Protocol, a video demonstration on ozone protection, and rally carrying the message “Heal the Ozone Layer, Heal the Earth” were held.
Students from the department as well as nearby schools participated.
A workshop on ‘Competitive Examinations and Career Opportunities’ was also held on the occasion.
IIT Guwhati Prof. Mohd. Qureshi in his keynote address on ‘Beyond the Classroom: Building a Career in Science through Competitive Examination’ highlighted the importance of building a strong academic foundation, developing conceptual understanding and preparing strategically for competitive examinations.
The programme was attended by Prof. G. D. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor of USTM, Dr R. K. Sharma, Advisor, USTM, Prof. Enamul Karim, Dean, SoAS and Mayur Bora, Author-in-Residence.
