SPARK organised a month-long Skill Training Programme for young adults attending education at SPARK’s Out of School Children Centres at Rangmen village, Ri-Bhoi District and Iewduh slum, Shillong, East Khasi Hills District.
The training programme was supported by the office of the Samagra Shiksha, Education Department, Government of Meghalaya. Around 40 beneficiaries participated in this training programme.
President and Founder of SPARK, Shima Modak informed that the main aim was to give self-supporting knowledge to the young adults so that they can live their life with dignity and to develop the ability to earn a living in them so that they can discharge their family obligations well as well as to provide financial independence that is crucial for breaking the cycle of poverty.
Modak further informed that the initiative was undertaken to ensure significant improvement in chances of employment and to strengthen the national economic structure and increase per capita income besides reducing the level of unemployment by providing self employment schemes.
The chief guest for the concluding ceremony was Swapnil Tembe, State Project Director of Samagra Shiksha, Government of Meghalaya who expressed happiness to observe out of school children coming back to school. He also assured his support to bring back more of such children to education.
Tembe also interacted with the students and learned about how education is bringing light into their lives. The other guests were State Coordinators and officials from Samagra Shiksha, Government of Meghalaya, community leaders, village heads and beneficiaries of the training programme.
Tembe and other officials from the Education Department gave away certificates to the participants who successfully completed the Skill Training Programme on Fast Food Making and Beautician course.
