Sohra Government College today organised a one-day workshop for students to understand the nuances of Common University Entrance Test (CUET) and address their concerns.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) had on March 21 announced that central universities across the country would admit undergraduate students solely based on CUET, beginning with the 2022-23 academic year.
A total of 320 students participated in the workshop from eight educational institutions within Sohra civil sub-division and four from Pynursla civil sub-division.
Principal of the college, A. L. Lyngdoh informed that the workshop is an outcome of the meeting of the principals with the vice- chancellor of NEHU on April 22 and in accordance with the direction from the Directorate of School Education & Literacy and the Directorate of Higher & Technical Education, to familiarise the students on the various aspect relating to CUET.
The resource persons at the workshop were Daphibahun Lyngdoh, Assistant Professor Department of History, Sankardev College, Shillong and Kerlihok Buam, Assistant Professor, Synod College Shillong.
They dwelt in depth about the CUET, which is a single window initiative to allow students entry into the 44 participating Central Universities in India. Details as regard to the Registration process, conduct of the test, pattern of the CUET etc were discussed thoroughly.
The workshop which was conducted in two sessions was also open for students to question and clear doubts about CUET.
The take-away from the workshop is that CUET will be a ‘new reality’ for the student community in the near future, a statement from the principal said.
The workshop was also organised as part of the Community Outreach Programme of the college and responsibility for the conduct of the workshop was entrusted upon the Department of History, Sohra Government College.
