Shillong, Aug 6: The New Shillong Township Development Agency (NSTDA) has sought clarification from the CBI Shillong office over a complaint by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) regarding the alleged illegal construction of a temple within its premises at Mawdiangdiang on government revenue land.
In a letter, the agency cited the lease agreement signed with the CBI on November 18, 2018. As per Clause 10, the land was allotted for setting up an office-cum-residential complex. “The lessee shall not construct any structure or alter any structure erected on the said land without prior permission of the agency,” NSTDA stated. It added that the terms of the agreement must be complied with invariably.
A copy of the letter was also sent to KSU Mihngi Circle.
The KSU said it expects a fair and speedy inquiry. If violations are found, the structure should be demolished as per law, it said. The union clarified that its demand is not against any religion or community, but to uphold the rule of law and prevent encroachment on public land.
