Sngap Syiem College, Mawkyrwat today held its graduation day as part of the two-day youth festival in collaboration with the Meghalaya Aids Control Society on the theme, “Enjoy life, take control, Stop HIV/AIDs.”
Addressing the programme, Chief Secretary, Donald P Wahlang emphasised on the need for students to explore opportunities and new possibilities. “Success is not final and failure is not fatal, it is the courage to continue that counts,” he said and reminded them that graduation is not their final achievement but they should move forward and stay focus by pushing towards new boundaries, set higher standards, to conquer new frontiers and never to shy away from taking risks.
He said that the youth festival is a platform of opportunities for youth to display their skills and talents. He also encouraged students to learn the basic skill in financial management, to believe in themselves, to be positive, confident with a strong determination in their goals and ambitions.
Deputy Commissioner, Tableland Lyngwa congratulated the students on their achievements and at the same time appreciated the college faculty for their hard work, dedication and endeavour towards the upliftment of the college. He said the college has produced students with varied talents at par with the students of other states.
Editor Shillong Times, Patricia Mukhim, Principal of the college, Dr K.K. Nongsiej, Vice Principal, B. Marweiñ also spoke on the occasion.
Skit (Red Show), cultural and variety show, Red Run, Red Ribbon (Quiz Competition) were part of the activities during the festival.
Meanwhile, the Chief Secretary also visited Civil Hospital, Mawkyrwat and later inspected the Swaacch Bharat Abhiyaan sites.
