In view of the upcoming February 27 state Assembly elections, the District Magistrate of Eastern West Khasi Hills has promulgated an order under Section 144 of the CrPC to prohibit the use of more than three vehicles by any intended contesting candidate during filing of nomination papers and also prohibit the assembly of more than five persons and more than three vehicles within a radius of 100 metres from the office of the District Magistrate in Mairang during the period of filing of nomination papers.
The order was necessitated in order to prevent overcrowding which might affect the normal flow of vehicles.
