Chairman of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, Pyniaid Sing Syiem, has expressed his willingness to give up the post after recently winning the by-election to the Mawryngkneng Assembly seat.
Blah had quit the Congress to stand as the National People’s Party (the same party as Syiem) candidate for the Mawphlang by-poll. Blah was ultimately unsuccessful in that challenge but looks like he will be rewarded for his defection with the post of KHADC Chairman.
The NPP’s MDCs met today with all but one – Alvin Khyriem Sawkmie – in attendance.
The decision on whether Blah will take over as Chairman will depend, however, on the state leaders of the party, including Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong.
“We have welcomed Blah today as the NPP MDC and member of the UDA and also met the CEM (Chief Executive Member) of the KHADC, Titosstarwell Chyne where we have urged the CEM that, until things are streamlined, to appoint Blah as the Chairman of the advisory committee and the CEM has done the needful,” Syiem informed.
He said that the NPP MDCs have expressed no problem in paving the way for Blah to be Chairman.
