Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today said that he was amused by social media jokes and comments disapproving Eastern West Khasi Hills as the nomenclature of the new district.
“I was amused and at the same time concerned when I had received different messages regarding the name of the district and I was very saddened to see that people were more interested in making comment about the name than giving suggestion on how we should make the district better,” Sangma said at the inauguration of the district at Mairang.
“It is very easy to criticise, very easy to just put a small post on social media. You have to start understanding that much more needs to be done than a simple post to make a difference in the life of the people. I can assure you we are here to make a difference in the life of the people,” he added.
Similarly, Assembly Speaker and Mairang MLA, Metbah Lyngdoh said that the comments made in various social media platforms about the name of the new district showed freedom of expression.
“I saw in the past few days since November 5 after the cabinet met to name the Eastern West Khasi Hills district. For me I’m so happy to see that there is lots of debate. It clearly shows that each and every one of us have the freedom to express our views on the name of the new district,” Lyngdoh said.
