The Eastern West Khasi Hills District Magistrate, A. Kharpor has warned of encroachments along the Shillong-Tura road (NH 44 E).
A prohibitory order under Section 163 BNSS was passed after the Executive Engineer of the PWD (Roads) complained about ongoing encroachments along the national highway, despite repeated efforts to remove them.
The District Magistrate said encroachments pose serious challenges to traffic management, operational efficiency, and future infrastructure development.
The order has been passed ex-parte due to the urgent nature of the issue. However, individuals aggrieved by the directive may approach the Competent Authority for redressal, the order said.
“The district administration reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining public infrastructure integrity and ensuring smooth, safe transit along national highways,” it said.
