Pressure groups must be the advocates of the public’s concerns to the state government, an assistant professor at Sohra Government College has said.
Prof Kamailang Nongmalieh was speaking at the first anniversary celebration of the Ri-Bhoi People’s Council (RBPC), which was held here today.
Nongmalieh stressed that pressure groups have a crucial responsibility to voice the concerns of the people to the government as many issues affecting the populace often go unheard by the authorities.
Furthermore, Nongmalieh highlighted the need for pressure groups to distinguish themselves by prioritising the genuine concerns of the people over personal or selective agendas. He encouraged the RBPC, as a district-based organisation in Ri-Bhoi, to lead by example in championing public interest effectively.
