The Central election observers (expenditure) deputed by the Election Commission of India today visited Mawkyrwat under South West Khasi Hills district and held meeting with the district-level officers to take stock of poll related expenditure.
Expenditure Observers for Shillong Parliamentary constituency, Satyapal. S. Meena and Kamlesh Kumar held a meeting at the office chamber of the District Election Officer.
Meena gave a detailed instruction concerning the roles and responsibilities of the Expenditure Monitoring team and urged the Assistant Expenditure Observer (AEO) to compile the reports on time.
There was also an interaction with the nodal officers of different teams on the preparation and status of election teams, seizures of cash and liquor, law and orders situation in the district and teams assembled to monitor compliance with the Model code of Conduct (MCC) and expenditure of the candidates and parties.
Meena emphasised on the need for teams to promptly inform the Deputy Commissioner or Nodal Officers about any instances of MCC violation or any issues they encounter.
The meeting was attended by District Election Officer, Tableland Lyngwa, and Assistant Returning Officer LT Tariang among others.
