Shillong, Sep 27: Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui yesterday laid foundation stones for the Thangbuli Government LP School building and improvement of Thangbuli village playground, besides inaugurating the Children and Adolescents Library and Digital Infrastructure at Thangbuli.
The minister said education should not be confined to textbooks and classroom learning but should equip children with knowledge and skills to face challenges of society and become self-reliant.
Referring to the newly inaugurated library, he said the facility would enable children and adolescents to access knowledge beyond conventional classroom learning and strengthen intellectual capacity.
He also stressed identifying and nurturing individual talents of children in sports and other disciplines and said improvement of the playground would provide better opportunities to develop sporting abilities and participate at higher levels.
Encouraging youth to make use of government programmes for skills and youth development, he urged them to take advantage of available opportunities.
The foundation stone for Thangbuli Government LP School building was laid under Mission Education Phase IV with a sanctioned amount of Rs 70,18,887. The project will strengthen educational infrastructure and improve learning facilities.
The Minister also laid foundation stone for improvement of playground construction of covered sitting gallery with room below and construction of septic tank at Thangbuli village involving Rs 1.22 crore aimed at improving sports and recreational facilities.
He also inaugurated the Children and Adolescents Library and Digital Infrastructure implemented during 2024-25 under State Rural Employment Society – Block Implementing Division at a cost of Rs 17,19,958 intended to provide library resources and digital learning opportunities.
