The Public Health Engineering Department celebrated World Water Day centred on the theme ‘Groundwater: Making the invisible visible’ yesterday at the State Convention Centre here.
PHE Minister Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar spoke on the theme and also highlighted the need to preserve and to ensure the sustainability of water sources in Meghalaya.
Presently, water is being supplied upto the household level in all villages in rural Meghalaya, a press release said. Over 2 lakh households have been provided with functional household tap connections (FHTCs) and the aim is to provide a total of 5,89,888 rural households with FHTCs by December 2022.
An exhibition was also organized with participants from different colleges, departments and firms. Prizes were distributed to winners of various competitions organized as part of World Water Day 2022. Villages from East Khasi Hills that attained 100 percent FHTCs were also felicitated.
