Shillong, Oct 7: Preparations for the 50th Golden Jubilee edition of the 100 Drums Wangala Festival is in full swing at Wangala A·dam, Assembly Speaker Thomas A Sangma said on Wednesday after an inspection.
The festival is scheduled from November 11 to 14, 2026.
Sangma, accompanied by West Garo Hills SP Abraham T Sangma, ADC Jude Rangku T Sangma and other officials, reviewed ongoing works and held a meeting with line departments and organisers. He said progress is satisfactory.
This year, the Golden Jubilee will feature around 1,000 A·chik drums, up from the traditional 100 drums.
Four Chief Ministers from the Northeast are expected to attend, along with cultural contingents from other states. The Bangladesh contingent will not participate in this edition, the Speaker said.
The jubilee is expected to bring together cultural troupes from across the region.
