A new building of the CTC Orchid Inn (MTDC) was today inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar at Thadlaskeiñ Mukhla, West Jaiñtia Hills district.
Speaking on the occasion, Dhar highlighted the government’s plan in developing infrastructure in the district for the development of the tourism sector.
He informed that construction works for the Rs 35 crore Tourism Convention Centre, located near the Thadlaskeiñ Lake, is going on and hoped that it will cater to the visitors with the facilities to be made available.
Dhar stated that coal mining was a major draw for the region in the past but now the people are focused on tourism, especially when Shillong has become the number one destination for tourists. He said the Jaintia Hills region would be second in the near future.
He further said that tourism has the highest budget allocation of about Rs 500 crore for construction of resorts.
Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla informed that about five luxury resorts will be constructed in Mukhla area.
Meanwhile, the deputy chief minister also inaugurated a community hall of the Nongkhroh dorbar shnong. There, he announced a sanction of Rs 3 crore for construction of an approach road and assured to upgrade the upper primary school to a secondary level by donating Rs 10 lakh for construction of additional classrooms.
