The South West Khasi Hills District Magistrate has passed prohibitory order under Section 144 CrPC preventing movement of persons within 100 meters from the Indo-Bangladesh border from 7 pm to 5 am.
The decision was made to thwart the illegal activities of international gangs, criminals etc along the international border within the district, the order said.
Besides smugglers engaged illegal transportation of contraband over the border there is reports of terrorists and fundamentalists trying to sneak in through the border during the night which if not taken care off will adversely affect the security of the state, he added.
