An awareness programme on ‘Meghalaya Right to Public Service (MRTPS) Act, 2020’ was held at Nolikata Higher Secondary School, under Ranikor C&RD Block today.

The programme was aimed at empowering the students and faculty with the knowledge necessary to navigate their rights and entitlements when accessing public services

South West Khasi Hills Additional Deputy Commissioner, L. T. Tariang informed about the Act. He said that the MRTPS stands as a cornerstone legislation aiming at ensuring timely delivery of public services to the state’s citizens. He emphasized on the critical role of services in the functioning of an economy or country, asserting that the faster the delivery of service, the higher the rank of the state or country, whether in terms of economic performance or political stability.

Tariang also stated that through the awareness programme, people will be informed about government services, including their timing and the rights conferred upon every citizen. Moreover, he emphasized that the act will improve and accelerate the public service delivery system and enabling individuals to access information regarding the status of their pending applications processed by various government offices and departments. Additionally, it will empower individuals to appeal to higher authorities and register complaints in cases of service delays. He reiterated that public services delivery is an important part of growth and development, serving as a key indicator of progress for both the state and the country.

District Sports Officer, Damang Syngkon delivered a presentation on the Act. He informed the gathering that the act came into force to empower individuals when they apply for essential services, ensuring timely delivery without any delays.

He also spoke about the Meghalaya State Public Services Delivery Commission (MSPSDC), MRPSA rules, 2021, Meghalaya Public Grievance Redressal and Monitoring System (MegPGRAMS), Right to Appeal, Citizen Related Services, and the Citizens’ right to government-notified services, etc.
