Shillong, Feb 28: Glenmark Foundation, in partnership with the Society for Action in Community Health (SACH), launched the “Health on Wheels” Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) in Umsning, Ri Bhoi district, on Saturday.
The initiative aims to strengthen community health systems and improve equitable access to quality primary healthcare services in underserved areas.
The project targets 20 villages in Ri Bhoi, providing essential primary healthcare services at the doorstep of communities.
The MMU will benefit pregnant women, children, elderly persons, and other vulnerable populations who face challenges in accessing timely medical care due to geographical and transportation barriers.
Umsning MLA Dr. Celestine Lyngdoh flagged off the unit in the presence of Principal Secretary Sampath Kumar.
Dr. Lyngdoh lauded the initiative, emphasising the importance of strengthening healthcare outreach in rural and semi-urban areas.
Kumar highlighted the importance of innovative partnerships in strengthening the public health ecosystem and encouraged continued coordination with district health authorities to ensure seamless integration and sustained impact.
