A meeting to discuss on combating the menace of drugs in South West Khasi Hills was today held between the district administration and the Joint Action Committee (JAC) Against Drugs wherein suggestion were placed on how the issue can be handled and the steps that can be taken to curb its widespread impact.
The JAC which comprises of NGOs, village heads and youth organisations had suggested setting up of a rehabilitation centre and formation of committee against drugs in each village.
Francis Kharlyngdoh, President of the Seng Samla Shnong Nonglang said that a number of thefts and incidents of people being beaten up do take place in the district because of drugs. He said there is a need for the district and the people to work in a systematic manner to see that no bigger crimes takes place in future.
KSU, Mawkyrwat circle president Pauldip Tongwah felt that a rehabilitation centre for drug addicts is a must have for the district.
Deputy Commissioner, Caramai Kharkongor, Additional Deputy Commissioner, S.C. Laloo, EAC L.K. Diengdoh, Deputy Superintendent of Police, S. Pasleiñ, CDPO, ICDS Project, Mawkyrwat, H. Sahkhar were present at the meeting.
