Shillong, Jul 15: The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Ri-Bhoi, conducted a three-day multidisciplinary farmers’ training and El Niño awareness programme at Umdihar village, Ri-Bhoi district, which concluded today.
The event is aimed to enhance farmers’ knowledge and skills related to climate-resilient agriculture through an integrated approach involving various scientific disciplines.
A total of 45 farmers participated in the programme.
During the inaugural session, the importance of adopting scientific and climate-resilient farming techniques to mitigate the challenges posed by climate change and El Niño was emphasised.
The training included sessions by experts such as Dr. Moloy S. Baruah (Animal Science), Dr. Meghna Sarmah (Agronomy), and Dr. Popiha Bordoloi (Soil Science). They covered topics such as the impact of climate change on agriculture, integrated farming systems, and sustainable soil health management.
Participants also engaged in practical demonstrations, interactive discussions, and group exercises to tackle location-specific challenges, facilitating the identification of effective climate adaptation strategies.
