Former civil servant Toki Blah has said that Manipur convulsed by ethnic violence is now in the grip of a civil war.
“A civil war like situation has prevailed in Manipur, but the fact of the matter is that the central government is ignoring the whole thing like nothing is happening,” he told Highland Post.
He observed that those responsible for ignoring the situation, that might also affect the other parts of the North East, might lead to a major break up of the region.
“Who is responsible for butchering of Manipur, if Biren Singh, Amit Shah and Modi cannot do anything? You instead talked about being the third largest economy, etc….? First set things right,” he said, adding, such a behaviour only makes people suspect that there must be an agenda or they are totally ignorant of what to do now.
He said that talks and negotiation should have happened at the earliest because it is only through talks and negotiation that solutions come up, but this has also been ignored.
On whether President’s rule should have been imposed, Blah said, “If they are least bothered and blind to the plight of their own people then what more can we say.”
Congress leader Ronnie V Lyngdoh said that at the party leadership at the centre speaks and continues to speak on the Manipur issue.
He mentioned about how the issue was raised in the Lok Sabah and the visit of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to Manipur.
“When you sow hatred you reap hatred and reap love when you sow love. So this is the policy where hatred is being spread everywhere and polarized on the basis of caste, creed, gender, etc” he stated.
