Shillong, Oct 30: Lumparing Vidyapith School inaugurated its Platinum Jubilee celebrations today with great enthusiasm and pride.
The occasion was graced by Almo P. Syiem, Joint Director of School Education and Literacy as the chief guest. The programme was attended by many distinguished guests, alumni, parents, and principals of adjoining schools.
The event featured a variety of cultural presentations by the students.
Speaking on the occasion, Syiem congratulated the management, staff, and students for their remarkable achievements over the decades and highlighted the school’s remarkable journey from its humble beginnings in the 1960s to its current status.
The Joint Director lauded the founder, whose vision and passion for imparting education to children laid the foundation for what the school has become today. “The founder had the foresight to understand that education is not just a privilege but a necessity,” she said, acknowledging the founder’s pioneering efforts during a time when educational opportunities were scarce.
She further expressed appreciation to the successive School Managing Committee (SMC) members, teachers, parents, and the community for carrying forward the founder’s dream. “What began in a humble manner has grown into a flourishing institution because of the collective effort and dedication of everyone associated with it,” she remarked.
Reflecting on the importance of education in today’s society, the Joint Director referred to the Right to Education (RTE) Act, stating that every child deserves access to quality education. She also emphasized the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and its vision for holistic, flexible, and continuous learning from the foundational to the higher levels.
She commended the school for keeping pace with educational reforms and for its steady growth — from a primary institution to its current secondary level — and expressed hope that it would soon be upgraded to a higher secondary school. “Education is a continuous process,” she said. “Schools must evolve not only in academics but also in infrastructure and approach to meet the needs of the future.”
She called upon all stakeholders, teachers, parents, SMC members, and students to work together to ensure the continued success of the school. She encouraged everyone to uphold the values of dedication, unity, and quality education. “Celebrating a Jubilee is not only about looking back with pride but also about looking forward with purpose,” she concluded. “Let us renew our commitment to providing excellent education and building a better future for our children.”
