Shillong, May 30: An Ebola mock drill was conducted on Saturday at the isolation facility of Civil Hospital Shillong, aimed to assess the preparedness of healthcare professionals in managing suspected cases of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).
The drill simulated a real-life scenario where a patient suspected of having the virus was brought to the isolation centre for evaluation.
The primary objective of the mock drill was to evaluate the effectiveness of established response mechanisms in dealing with potential EVD cases. It allowed healthcare personnel to practice their skills and coordination in a controlled environment, ensuring that they could respond quickly and effectively in an actual outbreak situation.
The drill also focused on testing the adherence to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) set forth by the Ministry of Health.
The simulation covered the complete chain of response. It also provided an opportunity to evaluate operational preparedness, identify potential gaps, and reinforce best practices in the management of high-risk infectious diseases. It also strengthened the capacity of healthcare workers to respond promptly, safely, and effectively to public health emergencies.
