The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in West Jaiñtia Hills today distributed potato seedlings to 30 farmers of Khliehtyrchi, Mihmyntdu and Myntdu Pynthorneiñ villages.
Myntdu Pynthorneiñ Farmers Welfare and Producers Organization (MPFW&PO) president, Pynchngain Rymbai thanked the office for aiding farmers on how to grow potatoes. He urged famers to start plantation soon after rice is harvested, as fertility of the soil is high.
Adviser of the organisation, Khroo L Pariat also urged farmers to make use of the help they get from the agriculture department and the KVK.
He said while the government has provided Rs 5000 to support famers, the amount will not suffice. Therefore farmers who have availed seeds can work hard and earn more, he added.
Pariat said farmers have benefitted more by selling CAU R1 paddy seeds to the agriculture department.
The organisation also stressed on the need for introduction of ‘Eco-Agro Tourism’ for the farmers to expand the operations of farming.
