The Narpuh circle of the Khasi Students Union (KSU) foiled what it described as the illegal entry of non-tribal labourers into the state yesterday evening.
The labourers, reportedly from Bihar and Assam, were travelling on an inter-state bus (ML 05L 7887) heading straight for a cement company at Lumshnong.
On investigation, the KSU found out that the labourers, numbering around 60, had come to work at the company without valid documents or work permits.
The pressure group later handed over the workers to the police and filed an FIR. The KSU claimed that the labourers had gotten through the anti-infiltration checkpoint at Umling by lying to the officials there, saying they were on their way to Silchar.
