The Khasi Students Union (KSU) has filed a complaint with the Deputy Commissioner of East Jaintia Hills regarding the June 19 incident involving Border Security Force (BSF) personnel and villagers of Kuliang.
Villagers and the BSF have contrasting narratives. The BSF claimed that the villagers were helping 30-35 Bangladeshi smugglers, who managed to enter India through an unfenced area, in despatching sugar to Bangladesh, while a woman alleged that the border guards forcefully entered her home and beat up her husband and molested her daughter. The husband suffered severe injuries, including broken ribs. He was visited in hospital in Khliehriat by the KSU.
Taking the villagers’ side, the KSU told the DC that “such egregious actions by individuals purporting to represent a law enforcement agency like the BSF are deeply concerning and warrant immediate intervention. The blatant disregard for human rights, the unlawful intrusion into our property and the perpetration of physical and emotional trauma demand swift and decisive action to ensure justice and prevent the recurrence of such atrocities. This letter serves as a formal complaint and a request for a thorough investigation into the misconduct and brutality displayed by the alleged BSF personnel.”
The pressure group urged the authorities to take swift and decisive action to ensure that justice is served and that such acts are not repeated.
