Health and Family Welfare Minister, James PK Sangma, laid the foundation stone for Bajengdoba Community Health Centre (CHC) on the premises of the existing primary health centre (PHC) today.
Sangma said that it was at the urging of Bajengdoba MLA Pongseng Marak, who was also present on the occasion, that it was decided to upgrade the PHC to CHC level. The government saw the demographic need and thus approved the proposal.
The PHC was created 33 years ago. The minister said that, being on a national highway, car accidents often occur and the need for a CHC becomes apparent when there is a need to address emergency cases.
He also informed the gathering of the advantage of the Mega Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) whereby a beneficiary can avail from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 30 lakh, including out-patient care.
During the programme, Sangma also informed that the state will soon send its first batch of medical practitioners for a capacity building programme with the Tamil Nadu government.
Others who accompanied the minister were Deputy Speaker and Resubelpara MLA Timothy D Shira, Kharkutta MLA Rupert Momin, North Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner RP Marak and Superintendent of Police Shailendra Bamaniya.
