The Hynñiewtrep Youths Council (HYC) today shuttered all banks that did not observe the Nongkrem Dance holiday.
Pressure group members went to meet the branch managers of various commercial banks in the Nongpoh area and forced them to close.
Such activities by these groups are a common occurrence. The General Administration Department had made today a holiday in East Khasi Hills and notified banks, among other institutions, to stay closed but did not include other districts in its order.
