BJP MLA Sanbor Shullai today used the ‘lipstick’ analogy to describe his wholehearted support to the NPP in the recently held Lok Sabha elections from Shillong parliamentary seat.
While allegations have been leveled against State BJP leaders of not fully supporting the NPP candidate Ampareen Lyngdoh during the polls, Shullai said that he along with his supporters in South Shillong constituency wholeheartedly supported the NPP.
“I am not like others who apply lipstick only on their face. I am a person who applied it on the face as well as the heart,” he said during an interaction with media persons here.
He stated that the opposition spread the propaganda that since the BJP is supporting NPP in the Lok Sabha election in Meghalaya, the two parties would pursue with the central party leaders to formulate the law for conversion of all Christians in Meghalaya to Hinduism.
“It worked and spread so fast especially in the villages. Our Christian brothers and sisters believed and succumbed to this propaganda,” Shullai added.
He said that the opposition claimed that they are a party for the Christians and they will protect the Christians from being converted to Hinduism
“This is absolutely political propaganda,” Shullai said, adding that in his South Shillong constituency similar propaganda was spread in the past that if BJP wins the churches will be locked down and beef will be banned.
“But when BJP won, no such things happened here,” he explained.
Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for bringing development and creating job opportunities in the last ten years, Shullai also claimed that it was because of Modi that people in India were saved through free ration and vaccine during the Covid-19 pandemic.
He further said that if Congress, UDP or VPP win the Lok Sabha polls in Meghalaya, they would be sitting in the opposition.
“In the opposition you’ll spend your time in the corner which will be a loss for the people. But if NPP wins then you’ll see the light of day,” Shullai concluded.
