Shillong, Oct 8: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has flagged serious shortcomings at Wahkaji Primary Health Centre in South West Khasi Hills after an inspection.
The inspection by KSU Umdohlun and Warsanlyngdoh Circles — led by Warsanlyngdoh Circle President Donbor Marshra and Umdohlun Vice President Drepstarwell Thongni — followed complaints from locals about poor healthcare services.
KSU found acute shortage of manpower, including a pharmacist, lab assistant, UDA/accountant/DEO and two Grade-IV staff.
The PHC also lacks basic infrastructure — boundary fencing, proper toilets, waiting room, conference room, AYUSH OPD room, store room, staff quarters, X-ray facility and stable power supply due to high voltage issues, the union said.
People from Warsanlyngdoh and Phlangdiloiñ areas are forced to travel to Nongstoiñ, Mawkyrwat or Shillong even for basic treatment, KSU said.
The Union has urged Health Minister and local MLA Pius Marwein to intervene and ensure immediate improvement of the centre.
