Shillong, Oct 8: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, who holds the Home portfolio, defended the state government’s continuous shuffling of police officers, saying that law and order does not suffer because of it.
Referring to concerns about the effectiveness of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), he said changes in leadership would not affect the government’s fight against drugs.
“If you find that if I transfer the ANTF SP today that the supply of drugs or the number of drug addicts increase, then inform me,” Tynsong challenged.
The Deputy CM said transfers were carried out based on the functioning and requirements of officers and were not driven by the government’s preference for particular individuals.
“It is not that because I want Mr A or Mr B or Mr C. We have a due process on how to go about it,” Tynsong added.
He said the government would ensure that changes in personnel do not disrupt the functioning of the ANTF or weaken the ongoing anti-drug operation.
