Shillong, Oct 8: A command and control centre to monitor movement of foodgrain trucks was inaugurated at the Directorate of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs office here on Thursday.
Department of Food and Public Distribution Secretary Sanjeev Chopra said the system will track vehicles carrying foodgrains from depots to fair price shops through GPS devices or drivers’ mobile phones.
The centre will allow officials to monitor movement in real time and verify whether consignments have reached their destinations.
The initiative will help address complaints of vehicles not reaching fair price shops and cases of possible diversion, he said, adding that authorities can immediately locate concerned vehicles and take action.
Commissioner and Secretary Pravin Bakshi, Director I Mawlong and other officials were present.
