The head teacher of a school in East Khasi Hills demanded Rs 50,000 from an assistant teacher ostensibly for some paperwork to be sorted out so that she can be counted as a genuine teacher at the institute, the Hynniewtrep Youths Council (HYC) has alleged.
The Sohiong circle of the HYC met the Sub-Divisional School Education Officer to demand action against the head teacher of Laitnongkseh Lower Primary School, Prophesstar Shylla.
The assistant teacher, Teldaris Nongbri, has been working at the school since February 2016 but has not received her salary since then.
According to the HYC, Shylla had asked Nongbri for Rs 50,000, claiming that he had to furnish various documents to appoint her as a teacher in the school. Nongbri gave him Rs 10,000 for the purpose.
The SDSEO has reportedly assured the HYC that he would take up the matter with higher authorities and issue a show-cause notice to the head teacher.
