Shillong, Jul 12: In a major milestone for rural healthcare in Meghalaya, Sohiong Community Health Centre performed its first-ever cesarean section, a move officials say will strengthen access to emergency obstetric care closer to communities in East Khasi Hills.
A healthy baby girl weighing 2.3kg was safely delivered through the procedure, bringing relief to the family.
The surgery was led by obstetrician Dr W Nongkhlaw and anesthetist Dr PM Lyngdoh. They were assisted by Dr Arkham, Dr Bryan and staff nurses from Mawphlang CHC, Sohiong CHC and Tirot Sing Memorial Hospital in Mairang.
Authorities extended appreciation to the medical professionals and healthcare workers involved, noting that their expertise and commitment ensured the safe delivery of both mother and baby.
