Shillong, Jul 12: Hima Nongkhlaw will mark the grand finale of its year-long 500th anniversary celebrations on July 17, coinciding with the annual observance of the death anniversary of legendary freedom fighter U Tirot Sing Syiem.
The announcement was made yesterday by Syiem of Nongkhlaw, PM Syiemlieh, along with members of the Hima and the celebration committee.
Officials said a series of special programmes have been planned to mark the closing ceremony of the 500-year milestone. The detailed schedule will be circulated to all villages under the Hima in the coming days.
As part of the July 17 observance, a floral tribute will be paid at the statue of U Tirot Sing Syiem at U Mot Tirot, Mission Mairang.
The Hima also announced cultural programmes including singing and traditional dance competitions for school students, youth organisations and talented young participants from across the region.
The conclusion of the 500th anniversary celebrations is expected to draw participation from traditional institutions, students and community groups from across West Khasi Hills.
