With an objective to encourage Laitlum’s growth as a tourist spot, cabinet minister and Mawkynrew MLA Banteidor Lyngdoh visited the area along with Tourism Commissioner and Secretary Vijay Kumar D.
During the visit, Kumar urged locals to take advantage of the various schemes to promote tourism.
Lyngdoh also inspected the site where a ropeway will be installed from Laitlum to Rasong, which he said will be constructed for the benefit of the villagers to transport agricultural produce and other goods.
Later, the minister took a walk from Thynroit to Jongksha to inspect the soon to be constructed road that will connect the two villages. The project will also include a bridge over the River Umlew. The road will cut travel between the two villages by nearly 50 minutes, he asserted.
“As we all know Laitlum is one of the most popular tourist spots and there is a need to make amenities available to tourists coming to the area so that the money that they spend will benefit the people,” Lyngdoh told reporters.
