The Federation of Khasi-Jaiñtia and Garo People (FKJGP) Central Body yesterday felicitated JETS 24×7, the first group from Meghalaya to have launched bike taxi service.
The felicitation programme was held at the FKJGP office Mawlai Kyntonmassar here.
FKJGP president Dundee Cliff Khongsit in his speech lauded the members of JETS 24×7 for coming up with a new venture in public transport. He said that this would serve as an example to other unemployed youth to start new things and become job creators.
“The FKJGP wanted to see our local youth stand on their own feet and have control over trade and business. The youth of our State should have the spirit of competition in order to excel in their fields of work. It is a matter of pride that JETS 24×7 has received a license from the government to operate bike taxis in the State,” Khongsit said.
FKJGP general secretary Eldie N. Lyngdoh in his speech said that the Khasi society should do away with the crab mentality. “We are no longer crabs to pull each other down but a society that is willing to push and motivate each other,” he said.
Moreover, FKJGP senior vice president Elton Cliff Warjri urged the members of JETS 24×7 to ensure that passengers using its service are safe and also to avoid exploiting the people through high fares.
JETS 24×7 managing Pynskhemlang W. Uriah while thanking the FKJGP for the felicitation also assured that his group would deliver the best service to the people. He also said that the group would work hard to expand its service across the State so that more unemployed youth could be provided employment through bike taxi service.
