Shillong, Aug 1: The central government on Saturday front-loaded an advanced tax devolution instalment worth Rs 1,09,019 crore to states, ahead of the scheduled August 10 date.
The move is aimed at boosting state-level capital expenditure and accelerating critical infrastructure projects.
Under the early release, Meghalaya received Rs 688 crore in untied capital. The funds are expected to support ongoing development in rural connectivity, education and healthcare.
In the Northeast, Assam received the highest allocation at Rs 3,552 crore, followed by Arunachal Pradesh Rs 1,476 crore, Tripura Rs 699 crore, Manipur Rs 682 crore, Mizoram Rs 615 crore, Nagaland Rs 524 crore, and Sikkim Rs 365 crore.
Nationally, Uttar Pradesh got the largest share at Rs 19,208 crore. Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal also received significant tranches.
Ministry of Finance officials said the constitutionally mandated transfer gives states liquidity to sustain high-multiplier capital spending without mid-quarter budgetary constraints.
