Following cases of mining of coal without permission on their clan lands, an FIR was filed by a resident of Nengchigin in West Khasi Hills alleging violation of a court order last month.
Meanwhile, videos of large scale coal mining being undertaken on the clan lands have surfaced on social media, raising questions on how coal was being mined despite the order of the Supreme Court. The videos show huge hills of coal that have been mined lying in a section of the village in Nengchigin.
In the complaint filed by one Maham G Marak under Nengchigin Akhawe within Nongstoin Syiemship, the complainant accused an opposing party of grabbing lands and mining coal despite a recent order passed by the Subordinate District Council Court on August 8.
“The court has ordered a stop to the illegal entry, grabbing and causing damage within the lands of Gorangabri, Nengchigen Akhawe by the workers of the opposing party. However, despite the order, the opposing party workers have not listened to the order given and have been mining coal from within the area, against the provision of the court,” said the complaint.
