Police in Eastern West Khasi Hills district has cautioned people against buying pre-owned or second-hand mobile phones without obtaining proper receipt from the seller.
The advisory came after police recovered many stolen stones which were used by the buyer unknowingly.
“It has been observed that a lot of mobile phones were reportedly stolen from many areas in the district. The general public are advised to be careful while purchasing pre-owned or second-hand mobile phone,” the district police said.
Urging the public to obtain proper receipt from the seller and to properly verify the identity of the seller, the district police said those who receive or use stolen mobile phones are liable to be punished and booked as per relevant sections of the law.
