Vice President of the United Democratic Party (UDP) in Ri Bhoi district, Cleophas B. Syiem today resigned from the membership of the party citing personal reasons.
Syiem submitted his resignation letter to the party secretary Michael Kharhunai in Nongpoh and was accompanied by the UDP president of Nongpoh circle, Andreas Syngkli.
The former KHADC CEM/Chairman had joined the UDP in August, 2022 after quitting the National People’s Party (NPP).
Speaking to reporters, Syiem said he has nothing personal against the UPD and his decision to quit was to join “other party which is in power” so that issues of the state gets a maximum focus.
Though Syiem refused to divulge which party he would be joining, sources said he will soon join the BJP and contest the upcoming Assembly elections from Nongpoh constituency.
