The Muga Eri Silkworm Seed Organisation, part of the Central Silk Board (CSB), is holding a technology orientation programme for staff of the Directorate of Sericulture, which began today.
The event, being conducted at Resubelpara, North Garo Hills, will conclude on Saturday. Twenty-five state government officials from the district are attending the training programme.
BN Sarkar of the CSB was the chief guest and is the head of the training programme. Sarkar explained how sericulture can generate employment and through muga/eri culture, the CSB takes a major role in conducting training programmes for the socioeconomic development of the district and he also focused on how silk culture activities have helped to curb violence in North Garo Hills.
He was hopeful that traditionally practiced muga/eri culture will definitely improve the economic status of Garo Hills and generate new employment opportunities.
The inauguration was followed by a technical programme where different scientists from the CSB will deliver lectures to the trainees over the course of the training.
