Shillong, Apr 25: A day-long workshop under the MPOWER Youth Employment & Economic Growth component was held at Bakra Multi Facility Hall, Resubelpara on Saturday.
The programme was organised by the Government Innovation Lab (GIL) in collaboration with the Harvard Growth Lab, Meghalaya Institute of Governance (MIG) and the Indian School of Business (ISB).
Cabinet Minister Timothy D Shira who attended the programme as the chief guest, emphasised youth empowerment through entrepreneurship and urged participants to explore opportunities in the agriculture and horticulture sectors, citing the region’s strong potential in these fields.
Key speakers, Ricardo Villasmil, Senior Researcher, Harvard Growth Lab, and Santiago Segovia, Research Fellow, highlighted challenges posed by the state’s remoteness, difficult terrain and limited employment avenues, while stressing the need to create sustainable livelihood opportunities beyond government jobs.
Discussions also focused on balancing traditional livelihoods with development and identifying feasible employment avenues for the youth.
