A six-day consultation camp on epilepsy is underway at the Bethany Hospital, Shillong.
The camp is being was organised by the hospital in collaboration with MIOT International, Chennai to create awareness on treatment available for the neurological condition. The camp will conclude on May 21.
MIOT’s epilepsy disorder specialist and surgeon, Dr. Shankar Balakrishnan and Dr Hrishikesh Sarkar, are providing expert guidance on the disorder.
Addressing a press conference today the doctors said epilepsy disorder is curable and with surgery children with the disease can lead normal childhood.
They said that the cost of treatment is expensive and MIOT and Bethany Hospital will urge the state government to initiate and help underprivileged patients to avail the treatment.
The common neurologic diseases are stroke, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer, epilepsy, head injuries and brain tumour, they added.
