The East Jaiñtia National Council (EJNC) has appealed to the authorities to stop the illegal transportation and import of coal into Meghalaya, especially that which is meant for the cement plants in East Jaintia Hills.
The pressure group said that such businesses are flouting the restriction on coal mined from within Meghalaya itself or flouting the import rules placed on the bringing in of coal and other minerals from places like Bangladesh.
Coal trucks are seen daily entering the premises of the cement factories in EJH and the pressure group claimed that these do so without valid documentation.
The EJNC therefore urged the Deputy Commissioner to take action through the police and other authorities to stop illegal transportation and imports.
