A conglomeration of all traditional heads in East Jaiñtia Hills district has set restrictions for candidates who are planning to hold election campaigns ahead of the Assembly elections.
The Synjuk Waheh Shnong East Jaiñtia Hills District during its executive committee meeting held on January 23 placed four restrictions to ensure free and fair elections in the two Assembly constituencies—Khliehriat and Sutnga Saipung—under the district.
President of the Synjuk, Hambertus Nongtdu in a statement here said that only 15 vehicles including that of a candidate are allowed entry into any village under the jurisdiction of East Jaiñtia Hills during an election campaign. A candidate will be allowed to hold only one public meeting in one village.
Entry of non-residents is prohibited to an election rally. The timing of the meeting should be held as per timing allotted by the district election officer and to ensure cleanliness of the venue and the surroundings, he said.
The synjuk further urged all the dorbar shnongs to ensure that the restrictions are made functional and contesting candidates of the two Assembly constituencies to follow the set restrictions.
