Three suspected drug peddlers on their way from Assam were arrested in East Jaintia Hills while transporting nearly 60 grammes of heroin with them today.
The three were identified by police as Altab Hussain, Anwar Hussain and Pranjal Das.
Based on credible information, police set up a checkpoint near the Umtyra infiltration checkgate and stopped an Assam-registered Bolero (AS 19 E 0671) at around 7pm.
During the search of the vehicle, six soap boxes containing a yellowish-orange powder were found concealed. Preliminary tests confirmed heroin, with the consignment weighing 59.86g.
A case has been registered at Khliehriat police station.
