Eastern West Khasi Hills District Deputy Commissioner, Wilfred Nongsiej today inaugurated the Aquafest held at the premises of Tirot Sing Memorial Hall, Pyndengumiong in Mairang in the presence of district officials, farmers, SHG members, teachers and students.
During his brief address Nongsiej congratulated officials of the Fisheries Department and said that the fest provides the right platform for citizens to engage with government officials representing various departments as also a platform for SHG members and entrepreneurs of the district to showcase their products.
He said the event is being organised with an aim to encourage farmers in their day to day farming pursuits. The Deputy Commissioner also appealed people to avail the benefits of the schemes and programmes of the government.
Stalls were put up for government departments including Fisheries, Agriculture, Veterinary& Animal Husbandry, Commerce and Industries etc and SHG members to exhibit and sell their products.
Aquariums and ornamental fishes were also handed over to four colleges of the district including Tirot Sing Memorial College, Khatsawphra College, Mairang Presbyterian Science College and Mawkyllei College during the programme.
