Dalmia Cement’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm, Dalmia Bharat Foundation (DBF), has started a data entry course in Lumshnong.
“In response to the limited availability of skill development infrastructure in the remote East Jaintia Hills district, DBF has introduced this course to provide rural youth with vital employability skills,” a press release stated today.
The inaugural batch of trainees numbers 28 youths, 21 of whom are women.
“The skills acquired from this course are anticipated to meet the demands of the growing business ventures in the town,” the release added.
“Observing the increasing economic activities and business developments in our area, we recognised the necessity for specialised skills,” Raju Ranjan Prasad of Dalmia Cement said. “This programme aims to empower our youth, especially women, by providing them with the necessary training to thrive in the job market, thereby enhancing local economic growth and community development. We are confident that this programme will pave the way for success, nurturing capable individuals ready to contribute meaningfully to the workforce.”
Today also marked the valedictory session of the 12th batch of a digital literacy course, with 20 youths receiving their certificates. Dalmia Cement’s Head of Human Resources, Vinay Kumar Mishra, and DBF’s Jitumoni Kalita were present on the occasion.
The Common Service Lab (CSL), an initiative by DBF, focuses on digital literacy, empowers students to enhance their digital and financial skills and prepares them for success in the digital age and improving their employability. Since its establishment in Lumshnong, the CSL has offered digital and financial literacy courses that aim to narrow the digital gap among young people. More than 200 youths have gained skills through these programmes.
